What is it that drives ordinary people to research, write, and publish local history? One common trait is probably curiosity. That's what fueled Nancy Newlin's desire to write about the Hayes mansion, and what also led her to publish a second edition of her book, The Gem of Edenvale: San Jose's Historical Hayes Mansion, in time for the mansion's centennial in 2007.

After an overview of the history of the mansion and the Hayes family, Ms. Newlin will share some stories of the frustrations and treasures of historical research.
